Who is Joe McFadden? Strictly Come Dancing 2017 contestant and Holby City actor paired with Katya Jones

SCOTTISH actor Joe McFadden has taken to the dance floor as one of the celebs on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing 2017.

The star – best known for his role as hunky telly doctor Raffaello di Lucca in hit medical drama Holby City – is paired with dancer Katya Jones. Here’s all we know about him…

Who is Joe McFadden?

Joe McFadden is an actor who was born in Glasgow in 1975.

He was the third of four siblings, but was the only child to be interested in acting.

Joe attended Holyroood R.C. Secondary School in Glasgow.

He started acting after his drama teacher suggested he go for a small part in TV show Taggart at the age of 12.

At the age of 15, he had already moved onto his next acting project.

Joe McFadden is also well-known for his love of theatre and has starred in several big shows over the years.

But he is perhaps best known for his role in BBC drama Holby City.

What has Joe McFadden starred in?

After starring in Taggart at the age of 12, Joe McFadden went on to appear in shows like Scottish soap Take the High Road, The Crowd Road and Sex, Chips & Rock n’ Roll throughout his teen years and early twenties.

He also appeared in telly movie Bumping the Odds in 1997, before going on to star in The Law in 2000 and Raphael: A Mortal God in 2004.

Joe McFadden has also appeared in films like the 1996 Small Faces, the 1998 Dad Savage and The Trouble With Men and Women in 2003.

The actor also had a starring role in The Crow Road

The Scots actor had some small roles in TV series like The Afternoon Play in 2005 and Judge John Deed in 2006, before he landed a major role as smouldering Doctor Jack Marshall in BBC drama Cranford.

Joe McFadden came to the nation’s attention after scoring a role in hit drama Heartbeat as heartthrob PC Joe Mason from 2007 to 2009.

Joe also had a short stint in BBC medical drama Casualty, before ITV’s Heartbeat was cancelled in 2009.

The actor didn’t return to telly until 2014 when he began his role as Raffaello Di Luca on Holby City.

What else has Joe McFadden been up to?

Joe McFadden has done more than just appear on your telly – the Scots actor is also well-known for his theatre work.

Between 1997 and 2009, the actor appeared in several theatre roles including Rent, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Rainbow Kiss.

He also wrote for the National Theatre of Scotland in 2011 before starring in the Alan Ayckbourn play Haunting Julie in 2012.

He’s also appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The star has also done voice acting for the Harry Potter video games and The Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag game in 2013.

The actor has worked with greats like Robert Carlyle, Dame Judi Dench, and Sir Ian McKellan.

He is also known to have supported charity Cahonas Scotland alongside fellow Scottish actor Sam Heughan.

When is Strictly Come Dancing 2017 on and who are the judges?

Strictly Come Dancing launched on September 9 on BBC One, with the live shows kicking off on September 23.

Strictly always airs on BBC One in two parts. The main show is on Saturday normally around 7pm and the results show airs on Sunday at a similar time.

There will be a Christmas special again in 2017, with the celebrity participants expected to be announced in early November.

This year sees a new judging lineup after head judge Len Goodman retired.

He is replaced by Shirley Ballas who joins returning judges Bruno Tonioli, Darcey Bussell and Craig Revel-Horwood on the panel.

There are three new professional dancers joining the existing pros; Dianne Buswell, Amy Dowden and Nadiya Bychkova.
