Driver arrested after cyclist, 26, killed and two others hurt in horror crash in South Wales

A DRIVER has been arrested after a cyclist was killed and two others hurt in a horror smash.

The group of cyclists were riding together when a white Skoda Octavia crashed into them.

A 26-year-old man, from Cardiff, sadly died at the scene and the two other cyclists were taken to hospital.

The driver, 36, has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The crash took place at 7.20am on the A48 in Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “A 26 year-old man from Cardiff was declared deceased at the scene and two other cyclists were taken by ambulance to the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend with non life-threatening injuries.
“The road was closed in both directions to allow investigations to take place and is expected to re-open shortly.
“A 36 year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
“Officers investigating the incident are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who may have seen the manner in which the car was being driven prior to the collision, to contact South Wales Police.”
