FOOTAGE shows the horrifying moment a base jumper smashes into a rock from 100ft after his parachute FAILED mid jump.
Landon Dirnberger suffered the near-fatal fall when jumping off Camelback Mountain in Arizona, and the shocking ordeal was all recorded on his helmet camera.
The jump, which took place last Christmas, started off well as the then 39-year-old Landon launched himself from about 250ft up on the mountain.
Within a matter of seconds though, things take a sinister turn for the worse – and moments later, Landon is lying on the ground below moaning in agony.
After bystanders rush over to help, Landon was taken to hospital for treatment.
Reflecting on the experience, Landon told AZ Family: “When the parachute opened, it opened 180 degrees so instead of flying away from the cliff, I was flying towards the cliff and didn’t have time to turn left or right.
“There are 100 different reasons that could have happened.
“Something wasn’t right and I flew straight into the cliff and fell to the ground.”
As well as smashing his pelvis, Landon also suffered a host of painful injuries, including breaking BOTH feet and shattered heels.
Despite the ordeal, Landon says he will carry on base jumping.
He said: “I’d rather be jumping than sitting in the hospital.”
Base jumping is an extreme sport but it carries a high danger risk.
Last year, a British man was killed after his parachute failed to deploy during a base jump in the French Alps.
