Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp keeping tabs on Mexico starlet Diego Lainez after starring at Under-17 World Cup

LIVERPOOL are reportedly keeping tabs on Mexico’s teenage starlet Diego Lainez after his impressive performances in the Under-17 World Cup.

The 17-year-old was the shining star for Mexico as they crashed out at the Round of 16 stage, losing 2-1 to Iran – failing to win a single match in the tournament.

But his displays have caught the attention of the Reds, as they eye up a potential swoop for the Club America attacking midfielder.

According to ESPN Deportes, Liverpool scouts like what they see of the youngster, and are already vying to bring him to Merseyside.

Lainez netted twice in the World Cup – both against England – but the South American country lost 3-2 to the Young Lions.

He burst onto the scene last season when he made his first team debut for Club America at the age of 16, and has since went on to become a regular in Miguel Herrera’s side.

Lainez has featured 16 times in all competitions for the Liga MX outfit, but is yet to net his first goal for the club.

But after shining in the World Cup, his stock has risen, and the Mexican side now look resigned to losing the talented playmaker.

Since arriving back from India, he has already play for America – playing for 73 minutes against Cruz Azul in a recent cup match.

Earlier this year, Lainez was named in The Guardian’s list of the 60 best young talents in world football.
