A SHOPFITTER has been killed after a heavy metal shutter fell on his head during shop renovations.
The man suffered devastating injuries and was pronounced dead at the shop renovation building site.
Police erected a large, blue tent to stop passers-by from seeing the tragic scene as they investigated the cause of death.
A shutter could be seen hanging down halfway in front of the shop.
The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the tragic death that unfolded at the building site opposite Caffé Nero in Commercial Way, Woking, Surrey on Thursday.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: “We were called to an address in Commercial Way following a report of a man sustaining head injuries in a place of work.”
They added: “The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Health and Safety Executive has been advised.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and investigations are ongoing.”
Part of Commercial Way between Chertsey Road and Church Street East was closed as police launched their investigations.
A post mortem examination is to be carried out on his body at the mortuary at St. Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey to establish the exact cause of his death.
