Yesterday he confirmed that he had quit St John-in-Bedwardine Church in Worcester after getting a two-year ban from preaching.
The clergyman, who writes a blog called The Rambling Reverend, cheated on wife Sarah, 43, with the unnamed parishioner last year.
He insisted he was not splitting from his missus, saying: “I was on a walking holiday and it made me realise the things important in my life.”
The vicar said his wife had anorexia and he was determined to help her through it.

She told how she was sticking by him, declaring: “There’s no impending divorce.”
A parishioner said of the vicar’s mistress: “She didn’t think she could have children.
She had a baby boy. It’s almost like a miracle child.”
The Diocese of Worcester’s investigation into Dr Stuart followed a complaint.
A spokesman yesterday said the vicar “admitted conduct unbecoming of a priest, having admitted adultery.”
