Ronnie O’Sullivan offered £40,000 if he makes a 147 during Welsh Open

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN will earn £61,000 if he hits a 147 at the Welsh Open.

Paddy Power have offered The Rocket the prize after he turned down a £10,000 chance to make a maximum break against Barry Pinches yesterday.

O’Sullivan, 40, deliberately played a pink instead of a black to complete a 146 because he felt the 147 prize money was too cheap.

He said: “I could have got on the black off that red, and possibly got another 147. You never know, it can get twitchy.

“But £10,000 – it’s too cheap! It is a massive achievement getting a 147 and it is worth more than that.

“Once it goes up I’ll give it another go.”

“I knew it was £10,000. I could have done it, but I didn’t think the prize was worthy of a 147.

“So I’ve tried to let it build up until it’s worthy and then go for it,” he said.

“It’s like going into a Mercedes garage and when they say that you can have the car for £3,000, you reply, ‘No way, that’s too cheap. I’m not buying it for that’.
